Our story

elchalten.com began in early 1998, in response to the need to promote El Chaltén's tourism activity and services online -at the time, the youngest town in Argentina. With the support and guidance of organizations, residents and people involved in the town's development, the site went live on July 1, 1999.

Today, more than 27 years later and without interruption, elchalten.com remains the go-to site for planning a trip to the area: we connect visitors directly with local guides, accommodations and service providers, with no commission or intermediation.

Los Glaciares Publishers

In 2003 we ventured into book publishing. That year we took part in the guidebook Trekking en Chaltén & Lago del Desierto, by Miguel A. Alonso, a close friend: we hiked several of its routes together in the field, inside and outside the National Park, before they ever made it onto the page. Years later, its second edition became the first guidebook of its kind to use QR codes to extend the printed content with live information from elchalten.com: photos, weather, services.

Later came Sueños de Viento, by Roxana Arbilla, daughter of one of the first families to settle in the Río de las Vueltas valley -now in its second print run-.

Los Glaciares Publishers is the imprint under which we publish these books, and other projects and ideas yet to come.

The other project

elchalten.com started as a utopia: betting everything on a town that had just been born. It became real, and alongside that project came another, bigger one -a family, a home, children raised in the heart of the National Park-.

Living here, exploring these landscapes, documenting them in photos and video, researching, and above all staying connected to El Chaltén's ever-changing reality is what lets us keep this commitment to continuous improvement, year after year.
